About Me
I began studying classical violin in a Suzuki program at age three, and I began studying Irish music at age 9 under the tutelage of All Ireland Champion fiddler Brian Conway in New York. I have medaled in the All Irelands—the World Championships of Irish Music—placing both in fiddle slow airs and in the trio competition. I currently study privately with All Ireland fiddler Winifred Horan of the Irish group Solas. I am a classical voice student of Michael Meraw of the New England Conservatory, and also perform vocal jazz. For the past several years I have had the privilege of being a part of several prestigious choirs such as the Tanglewood Festival Chorus of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Schulich Singers of McGill University, and Odyssey Opera in Boston, MA.
I currently live and study in Boston, MA, and am an active member of the Boston Pops and Boston Symphony Orchestra's Tanglewood Festival Chorus, Boston University's Marsh Chapel Choir, and the Northeastern University Jazz Ensemble.
Alex is a beautiful all-round musician. One of the best I have met. He is a brilliant fiddler with wonderful technique, a great ear and most importantly an open mind about music. His desire to learn about and explore different musical genres and paths is part of the reason I love teaching him. His fiddling is bold, colorful, technical and mature. He will travel far with his music and it is a joy to witness his passion for fiddling, music and the arts...
